Horton Kirby

Once again our bi-annual trip to St Mary’s Church in Horton Kirby, Kent, was well received by a generous audience. Old friendships were once again renewed, and a substantial sum was raised for the on-going maintenance of the church.

As usual, the programme for Horton Kirby included a couple of interesting solo performances. This year it was a wonderful piano recital from Chris Duckett, which really enthused the audience. Later on, this was followed by an equally inspiring piano duet with Chris and Wyn Hyland. The audience showed continual appreciation, even well after the concert had finished.

It’s a long way to Kent on a Sunday, so congratulations to everyone who made the journey.

Rock in Richmond

A couple of weeks later, the Gwalia took part in a joint charity concert with ‘The Richmond Rock Choir’ at the Duke St. Church, Richmond, which was held in aid of the charity LEAH.  ‘Learning English at Home’. This is a small charity that helps refugees learn English.

The packed audience were treated to a varied mix of traditional Welsh songs, and many songs more associated with the likes of Queen etc…

The final number was a Joint rendition of Delilah which sounded extremely powerful from the addition of so many female voices in harmony. Even the audience joined in.
It was an unusual evening, but certainly sent the audience home with smiles on their faces.

Private Wedding in City of London

The final performance before our Summer Break saw the Gwalia sing at the wonderful St. Lawrence Jewry, next to the Guildhall where we were pleased to sing at the wedding of a relative of our President Cerys Matthews.

The beautiful acoustic of the Sir Christopher Wren church was a joy to sing in, as we entertained the audience with a variety of English and Welsh numbers, while waiting for the arrival of the bride.

Interestingly, the song that produced a standing ovation from the Scottish Groom’s side was ‘Flower of Scotland’. It seemed a very popular addition to the predominately Welsh programme.

Gwalia on Channel 4

As we head to the summer break, keep a lookout for members of the Gwalia and Rugby Choir who can be seen advertising a well-loved TV series on Channel 4.

Have a great summer break everyone. See you all in September.
